Basic Level I, Summer Intensive

Integral Yoga Institute offers a comprehensive teacher training program consisting of over 200 class hours.

All Hatha Yoga classes and selected workshops at Integral Yoga Institute are offered free of charge to participants for the duration of the training program. Teacher trainees will also receive a 10 percent discount on purchases at the Integral Yoga Shop, Integral Yoga Natural Foods, and Integral Yoga Natural Apothecary.

This respected program has been developed and refined during 25 years of training yoga teachers. The purpose of the program is beyond making you a yoga teacher. The program is an excellent foundation for an extensive knowledge of yoga. Complete instruction in how to teach Integral Yoga® Hatha Beginners I is the basis of the program. This includes:

  • Hatha yoga postures
  • Pranayama (breathing practices)
  • Meditation and deep relaxation.

Considerable attention is given to many other aspects of Yoga so that all graduates have both a practical and philosophical understanding of the full scope of its teachings and practices. Subjects include:

  • Anatomy and physiology
  • Yogic diet and nutrition
  • Raja Yoga (psychology of mind)
  • Karma Yoga (selfless service)
  • Bhakti Yoga (devotion)
  • Jnana Yoga (self analysis)
  • Sanskrit language.
  • Participants also learn how to organize and initiate classes for professional groups and organizations. Finally, teacher trainees will refine and deepen their personal practices of asanas, pranayama and meditation.

The Integral Yoga® system of Hatha Yoga is utilized, along with other lifestyle changes, by Dr. Dean Ornish in his book Dr. Dean Ornish's Program for Reversing Heart Disease.

    Certification and Yoga Alliance Affiliation

Graduates receive a diploma certifying them to teach Integral Yoga Hatha Beginners I classes either at the Institute or elsewhere. However, certification is not automatic: all trainees must qualify through a series of thorough tests. Graduates receive well beyond the basic 200 hours needed to be a Registered Yoga Teacher of the Yoga Alliance.

    Admissions

Applicants need not be adepts of Hatha Yoga. However, applicants should have at least six months experience with practicing Hatha Yoga and have experience with the Integral Yoga Hatha I beginners class. The course is demanding. Much material is covered requiring serious application, home study and most importantly, regular attendance.

    Tuition

Current tuition of $3300 includes the Integral Yoga Teacher's Manual and Textbooks, and the weekend retreat. A deposit of $250 is required along with an application form and the balance is due on the first day of classes. A 4-installments payment plan is available at a one time $50 fee. In case of withdrawal, deposit less $50 administrative fee is refundable 2 weeks or earlier prior to the beginning of the program, no refund after that.

    Application

To apply for admission, please fill out the application form, include a brief personal essay, and send it along with a deposit of $250 payable to the Integral Yoga Institute. You will be contacted by phone for an interview. If you are not admitted, your money will be returned after the start of the program.
