Ohashiatsu®
Ohashiatsu is a unique method of healing touch. It is also a method of meditation, a method of self-improvement. It has taken Shiatsu/acupressure to a different level. You haven’t truly enjoyed bodywork until you’ve experienced Ohashiatsu. Initially developed to keep the giver’s body healthy, it allows the relaxed state of the giver to make it more effective and comfortable for the receiver.
Ohashiatsu® Beginning I
Taught by OHASHI
A Practical 4-Day Course • 10 a.m.–6 p.m. $450*
Friday through Monday, August 3–6, 2012
Learn the fundamental principles of the Ohashiatsu/Ohashi method as they apply to bodywork and, more important, to every aspect of life. The course material covers the traditional meridian system, the key acupoints, and the direction of energy flow. The Ohashi method focuses on developing the correct movement, tonus, and gravity necessary for effective touch. Emphasis on hands-on learning teaches participants the skills for giving a full-body session by the end of the course. Hundreds of beginners and experienced bodyworkers have benefited from this course. Yoga practitioners will find useful knowledge and techniques to add to their Yoga instruction.
*$400 if preregistered and paid by July 20
Ohashiatsu® Beginning II
Taught by Maureen Miller
Ohashi Method: 4-Week Course • 9:15 a.m.–1 p.m. $500*
Mondays and Thursdays, April 30–May 21, 2012
Learning the principles and philosophy in the first course gives you the “how” for working with energy meridians. The Beginning II course provides the “why” for working with specific meridians by introducing the five elements of fire, earth, metal, water, and wood. Your appearance, your habits, your likes and dislikes, and your emotions and attitudes are examples of the effort to be in harmony with the five elements that are in nature and within you at all times. You’ll learn the five element Makko-ho stretches to open your own meridians and balance the qi energy; the Bo and Yu points—diagnostic points on the front and the back of the body—to help determine which meridians most need to be brought back into balance; and techniques in side position.

Ohashiatsu® Intermediate I
Taught by Sam Berlind
Ohashi Method: 8-Half-Day Course • 9:15 a.m.–1 p.m. $650*
Mondays and Thursdays, June 4–28, 2012
This course demonstrates why Ohashiatsu is the best modality for givers. You will learn new techniques using your arms, elbows, and knees, which improve body balance and grace and give the palms and thumbs a much needed rest. Using knees in conjunction with forearms, elbows, or the hands allows the giver to make more than two connections with the receiver, producing a nurtured feeling. This is where Ohashiatsu as meditation can begin to be experienced. You will be introduced to Oriental diagnostic areas of the body, the energy qualities of Kyo and Jitsu, and the psychological/emotional aspects of meridian energy and how they relate to the five elements.
*$600 if preregistered and paid by May 21
Ohashiatsu® Intermediate II
Taught by Sam Berlind
Physiology/Psychology and Meridian Extensions • 9:15 a.m.–1 p.m. $800*
Mondays and Thursdays, September 10–October 4, 2012
This training will introduce you to the Masunaga meridian extension system. Dr. Masunaga, a psychologist turned Shiatsu practitioner and teacher, found that the psychological and emotional aspects of the meridians manifested themselves in parts of the body other than where the traditional meridian system had shown. By learning the Masunaga meridian extensions, you will delve deeper into how physical situations can manifest in the emotions and the psyche and how unbalanced emotions can produce physical aches, pains, and illness.
*$750 if preregistered and paid by August 27
Ohashi’s Oriental Diagnosis
Taught by OHASHI
Reading the Body • 10 a.m.–6 p.m. $350*
Saturday and Sunday, December 8–9, 2012
Ohashi compares Eastern and Western approaches to health with humor and sensitivity and brilliantly draws out the precepts and seeming paradoxes of Oriental medicine in a language we can all understand. His discussion covers face diagnosis: general facial structure, with detailed focusing on forehead, eyebrows, eyes, nose, mouth, teeth, and ears. Other topics are back diagnosis with bilateral distortion, supine-position diagnosis, and movement diagnosis. He explains and demonstrates several meridians and their relationships, as well as physical and psychological diagnoses to be drawn from the meridians. He ends the course with his famous “shoe diagnosis”: reading participants’ shoes to analyze the lifestyle, psychology, health, and even financial condition of the wearer. This course helps you to view the human and natural worlds with new eyes and to discover physical, mental, and spiritual conditions in yourself and others. Open to everyone, particularly useful for psychotherapists, counselors, acupuncturists, nurses, doctors, and body workers.
*$300 if preregistered and paid by November 24
