Chair and Gentle Yoga

OPEN HOUSE Saturday, June 8 • 2–3 p.m. and Wednesday, July 10 • 7–8 p.m.

The Chair and Gentle Yoga Teacher Training provides a solid foundation for Yoga instructors to know how to adapt the basic Yoga asana for those students who may be limited in movement because of age, illness, disability, or injury. With the use of chairs, the wall, straps, bolsters, blankets, blocks, and gentle assists, you will learn how to modify traditional Yoga postures as well as create Yoga classes designed for specific populations, such as Alzheimer’s patients, stroke victims, multiple sclerosis sufferers, the visually impaired, and so on.  This course prepares you to adapt the traditional Yoga class so that students of any age, shape, size, or condition may enjoy the Hatha Yoga experience safely and comfortably.

While the bulk of the course focuses on asana (postures), you will also learn how to deepen your students’ experience through meditation, pranayama, and Raja Yoga (Yogic philosophy).  You will receive a rigorous review of anatomy and physiology as they relate to specific conditions.  You will work hands-on with your fellow Yoga teachers in training as well as people living with the conditions mentioned above.

Your study will conclude with an in-depth exploration of one, specific physical condition as well as a teaching practicum. You will participate in your teaching practicum through assigned readings, practice teaching with a mentor, and attending various Chair and Gentle Yoga classes.

Upon graduation, you can expect to guide people living with physical limitations confidently and compassionately through a Hatha Yoga experience that is both safe and satisfying. This program prepares you to teach Hatha Yoga in a variety of settings, including Yoga studios, assisted-living facilities, nursing homes, and hospitals.

We look forward to sharing this beautiful practice with you.
