How to Get Yourself Off the Ground on Your Arms

Arm strength is only part of lifting the body into an arm balance. Learn how to work with alignment, abdominal strength, timing, mental approach, and balance to move into these challenging asanas. With a little imagination, you’ll experience the thrill of flying but with a lot less risk. We’ll begin with warm-ups, especially for opening and stretching hands, wrists, arms, and shoulders. Then we’ll explore arm balances close to the floor, finding ways to relax and prevent strain. We’ll also practice inversions that require an arm balance. Props will prove useful, and modifications will be helpful.
